KIM RATTENBURY answers some Questions from THE VAULT and SACHAJUAN
1. BEACH TO BAR
There’s only one trick to beautiful, straight-from-the-ocean hair and that is to protect the hair, like you would your skin. Simply, prep the hair with a product that provides a UV filter, prior to sun exposure. The other benefit to this is that the product will stay in your hair well after you have been at the beach, helping condition the hair throughout the day.

2. POLISHED BEACH WAVES
Step 1 – Start by washing with a texturising shampoo & conditioner.
Step 2 – Blow dry hair using a small amount of seasalt spray.
Step 3 – Using large tongs, wrap hair horizontally, stopping 2-3 cm from the ends. Stylist’s tip: Don’t tong the ends! Leave the ends straight or untouched for perfectly undone beach waves.
Step 4 – Use your fingers to brush through to create texture.

3. MERMAID BRAIDS
Step 1 – I Blow dry hair using a small amount of heat protectant or styling prep product.
Step 2 – Part hair in the middle taking the first section at the front of the hair line, next take a section of about 3cm of hair, then divide that into 3 equal sections.
Step 3 – Begin to start to braid, then take each section by adding another 2 cm of hair – continue to the nape of your hair line and then plait the remaining hair until their is no hair left.
Step 4 – Tie off and repeat the other section.
Step 5 – Spray to hold and gently pull at the braids for a lived in look.

4. THE SLICK
Step 1 – Blow dry hair, using straight & shine spray, brushing hair back repeatedly, so it lays flat onto the scalp, ensuring you have a sleek surface.
Step 2 – Continue brushing and use other hand to gather all hair then tie off or leave ends loose for short hair.
Step 3 – Go over any loose hair with a flexible hair spray, using a clean make up brush to do this.
